NEWTON – The Progressive Democrats of America today announced its endorsement of Ed Markey for re-election to the United States Senate. This national endorsement comes alongside the endorsement of the group’s Massachusetts chapter.
“Ed Markey has been a progressive champion for years. We’re proud to once again endorse his campaign at the national level, after he also won an overwhelming 98% of the statewide endorsement vote,” said Progressive Democrats of America Executive Director Alan Minsky. “PDA Massachusetts established a resounding local endorsement, and we’re looking forward to PDA activists nationwide helping Ed bring home the win in the Senate primary.”
The Progressive Democrats of America boasts more than 150,000 members nationwide, with close to 10,000 in Massachusetts alone. The group has worked to bring these voices to Washington to advocate for the issues that matter most to progressives today, including the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, the protection of voting rights, and the need to keep the United States out of unnecessary wars.
“The Progressive Democrats of America is one of the greatest examples of the power and effectiveness of grassroots organizing,” said Senator Markey. “Whether it’s combating the climate crisis, advocating for affordable health care, or keeping corporate interests out of politics, the Progressive Democrats of America have always supported the progressive causes that matter most. At a time when grassroots organizing has never been more important, I am proud to have their endorsement in this race.”
The organization’s endorsement follows the recent announcements of support from several major groups, including UNITE Here Local 26 labor union workers, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice, the NRDC Action Fund, and Peace Action.
The Progressive Democrats of America was founded in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 2004. The group’s mission is to build a party and a government that is controlled by citizens. Since its founding, Progressive Democrats of America has used its momentum and political strength to help progressive Democrats win elections.
Senator Markey has served in the United States Senate since winning the special election in 2013 and has amassed a deep record on environmental, climate, gun safety, and consumer protection issues. His leadership has led to legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, protect LGBTQ+ rights, and ensure that Donald Trump cannot launch a nuclear first strike without Congressional approval. Raised in Malden, Ed Markey has always stood up for the priorities of Massachusetts.
