BOSTON — Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has endorsed Ed Markey in his bid for re-election to the United States Senate. Middlesex County includes Cambridge and Lowell, and is the most populous county in all of New England, with over 1.6 million residents.
“I am honored to endorse Senator Ed Markey for re-election,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Ed has been a fierce advocate and a true partner in the fight against the opioid crisis. Not only has he championed impactful legislative solutions in Washington, he has also made it a priority to meet with, learn from and listen to the treatment facilitators, first responders and state officials who are on the front lines. I am continually impressed with the amount of time Ed spends listening to his Massachusetts constituents, including our most vulnerable residents. I’m particularly grateful for his recent efforts to protect Medicaid access for those who cannot afford bail. At a time where we are experiencing an empathy deficit in our politics, I am grateful for Ed’s example. Ed is exactly the leader that Massachusetts needs in Washington right now. I’m proud to stand with him.”
“Marian Ryan is a strong, progressive leader who is working to redefine the criminal justice system,” said Senator Markey. “She has shown the Commonwealth and our nation that true reform is possible. District Attorney Ryan focuses not only on prevention through education, but also through new and innovative approaches to take on our state’s most pressing issues. From outreach to domestic violence survivors to preventing substance misuse, Marian Ryan works to improve the lives of the people of Middlesex County. Her endorsement means a great deal to me, and I’m very honored to have earned it.”
