Westport Selectmen Brian Valcourt and Steven Ouellette Endorse Ed Markey for United States Senate
Southcoast Endorsements Follow the Regional Debate

WESTPORT — Westport Vice-Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Brian Valcourt, and Selectman Steven Ouelette, both announced today their endorsements of Senator Ed Markey for re-election.
“Selectmen Brian Valcourt and Steven Ouelette are a strong team fighting to make a difference in Westport. Their work on the local level for the development of sustainable infrastructure and development are essential contributions to ensuring a green revolution in our coastal towns.Their years of service have demonstrated their commitment to improving the lives of their constituents. It is an honor to receive their endorsements in this race,” Senator Markey said.
“Senator Markey is one of the original authors of the Green New Deal and an early supporter of Medicare for All. He stands up for his principles and continues to be a leader, both for Westport and the Commonwealth on the floor of the United State Senate. I am proud to endorse Ed Markey for re-election,” said Valcort.
As a UMass Dartmouth graduate and long-time Westport resident, Valcort is dedicated to tending to the specific needs of Massachusetts’ South Coast.
The endorsements come on the heels of Senator Markey’s Southcoast debate performance. Markey has a strong track record of advocating and delivering on the needs of the Southcoast . This month, he introduced the “BRAIN TRAIN” Act to expand passenger rail across Massachusetts, including South Coast Railso towns like Westport may have better access to affordable, clean public transportation.
“As a small town leader, I want a Senator to fight for the funds we need in Westport, especially in these uncertain times, Ed Markey has been a leader that I can depend on. He has delivered for Westport and has worked hard and I am proud to endorse him for re-election to the U.S. Senate,” said Oulette.
Oulette is in his fourth term as selectman and has led a career of public service to the town, including working as a call firefighter and reserve police officer for the town. A life-long resident of Westport and graduate of its public high school, Oulette is dedicated to sustainable development and conservation for Westport.
Senator Markey has served in the United States Senate since winning the special election in 2013 and has amassed a deep record on environmental, climate, gun safety, and consumer protection issues. He co-authored the Green New Deal, and his leadership has led to legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, protect LGBTQ+ rights, work toward racial justice, and ensure that Donald Trump cannot launch a nuclear first strike without Congressional approval. Raised in Malden, Ed Markey has always stood up for the priorities of Massachusetts.
