BOSTON — The progressive media and organizing forum, Daily Kos, today announced its endorsement of Ed Markey for re-election to the United States Senate.

Daily Kos’ support comes after several other progressive organizations also announced their endorsement, including: the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Sunrise Movement, NARAL Pro-Choice, the NRDC Action Fund, Peace Action, the Jewish Democratic Council of America, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Progressive Democrats of America, Indivisible, and Our Revolution.

“Daily Kos seldom gets involved in primaries, but we’re engaging this time because the Senate would be a much poorer place without Markey in it,” Joan McCarter, Senior Political Writer for Daily Kos, said in the publication’s endorsement statement. “His unflagging dedication as a force for progress is why we need his help getting our country back on track. On the issues, Markey can’t be beat. For experience, Markey can’t be beat.”

In 2004, Daily Kos began endorsing Democratic candidates with the philosophy that progressive change requires progressive advocates in office. Daily Kos goes beyond traditional media as it organizes for progressive change. The group promotes get out the vote efforts, helps constituents hold their representatives accountable, and provides an online space for leaders and community members to share their ideas.

“Daily Kos is on the frontlines of the fight for reproductive rights, environmental justice, racial and economic justice, voter participation, and dozens of other progressive issues,” said Senator Ed Markey. “The group empowers community members to take grassroots action, which is critical to our fight to keep the House and take back the Senate and White House this November. Senator Markey has served in the United States Senate since winning the special election in 2013 and has amassed a deep record on environmental, climate, gun safety, and consumer protection issues. He co-authored the Green New Deal, and his leadership has led to legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, protect LGBTQ+ rights, and ensure that Donald Trump cannot launch a nuclear first strike without Congressional approval. Raised in Malden, Ed Markey has always stood up for the priorities of Massachusetts.
