Lynn Mayor & Former Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman Thomas McGee Endorses Ed Markey for Senate
Wednesday, January 29, 2020
LYNN — Lynn Mayor and former Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party Thomas McGee has endorsed U.S. Senator Ed Markey in his bid for re-election.
First elected in 2017, McGee is currently serving his first term as mayor of Lynn. Prior to his election as mayor, McGee served as a State Representative for the 11th Essex District and as a State Senator for the Third Essex District. From 2013 to 2016, McGee served as Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. As mayor, McGee serves as Chairperson of the Lynn School Committee.
“Mayor McGee has delivered on the issues that matter most to the residents of Lynn and Essex County,” said Markey. “As a committed public servant, he has worked hard to spur economic development in Lynn and improve the city’s infrastructure and public schools. As the former Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Tom helped guide crucial investments in transportation across the Commonwealth.”
“Senator Markey has consistently delivered for the residents of the City of Lynn, from his leadership in addressing climate change, to fighting for affordable and quality healthcare for every Lynn resident, to supporting our vision for investment in a 21st century transportation system that will transform our community,” said McGee. “He has also been the national leader helping us battle the cable companies to protect critical funding to all municipalities for local public, educational and government access television. We need Senator Markey to continue to stand up for Lynn residents in the United States Senate. I am proud to endorse him for re-election this September.”
In addition to Mayor McGee’s endorsement, Senator Markey has earned the support of the rest of the Lynn State Delegation, including Senator Brendan Crighton, and State Representatives Daniel Cahill, Peter Capano, and Lori Ehrlich.
Senator Markey has been a strong advocate for the residents of Lynn during his tenure as a United States Senator. Since 2016, Senator Markey has helped to bring jobs to Lynn by supporting U.S. Army Contracts for GE Aviation’s facility in the city. This year, he helped to secure an award of $116,810 for the Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Last April, Senator Markey held a Green New Deal Town Hall in Lynn to discuss his comprehensive plan for combating climate change and transitioning the country’s energy economy toward a sustainable future.
Senator Markey has served in the United States Senate for the last six years, and is widely regarded as the leading member of Congress on environmental issues. He has also led legislation to protect consumers and address the opioid epidemic, internet privacy concerns, and net neutrality.
