BOSTON, Mass. – Today, the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 4 announced its endorsement of Senator Ed Markey for re-election. Local 4 represents more than 1,200 elevator mechanics and apprentices across New England.
Founded in Boston in 1899, IUEC Local 4 represents the certified elevator mechanics and apprentices who install, modernize, maintain, and inspect the elevators, escalators, and moving walks across New England.
“Ed Markey is in the Senate fighting for unions every single day – for the workers who make this country run, for the building trades who build it, and for the next generation of women and men coming up through our apprenticeships,” said IUEC Local 4 Business Manager Pat Sampson. “Senator Markey is a strong ally in Washington, and Local 4 is proud to endorse him for re-election.”
Local 4's endorsement builds on the trade unions backing Senator Markey’s re-election, including from Roofers Local 33, IUPAT District Council 35, North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, IBEW 103, and the Massachusetts & Northern New England Laborers' District Council of LIUNA.
Senator Markey thanked Local 4 for the endorsement:
“The men and women of Local 4 lift Massachusetts up every single day – and they lift workers into long-lasting union careers that built America’s middle class,” said Senator Ed Markey. “As demand in the building trades grows, apprenticeships like Local 4’s are pathways to success – pathways to the American Dream – for the next generation of women and men. I am proud to stand with Local 4 and I am honored to earn their endorsement.”
