BOSTON, Mass. – Today, three of New England’s largest building trades, United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local 33, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 35, and the Massachusetts & Northern New England Laborers' District Council (LiUNA) announced their endorsement of Senator Ed Markey for re-election. Together the three unions represent tens of thousands of New England workers who roof, paint, finish, and build the schools, hospitals, bridges, and energy projects across Massachusetts. “District Council #35 of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades is proud to endorse Senator Markey for re-election,” said Chris Brennan, Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of IUPAT District Council 35. “Senator Markey fought hard to secure historic infrastructure funding for Massachusetts that will put our members to work, and he won't stop fighting until these projects have been completed using the strong labor standards that he pushed for. Senator Markey is a proven, committed advocate for working people, and we are proud to stand with him.” “LiUNA laborers are on the ground at the very start of every major construction and infrastructure project across Massachusetts. Today, the Commonwealth’s largest projects are being built union because Ed Markey has fought to ensure they are union jobs,” said the Massachusetts & Northern New England Laborers' District Council. “In Washington, Senator Markey has stood shoulder to shoulder with us to protect prevailing wages, secure project labor agreements, and strengthen the on-the-job protections our members rely on. We’re proud to endorse Senator Markey for re-election.” “The unionized roofers, painters, and laborers of New England are the people who actually built Massachusetts. When they say they are with me, that is the endorsement that matters most,” said Senator Ed Markey. “My father lost a finger at work before there was an OSHA. That is why I will never stop fighting for safe worksites, the right to organize, and ensure that federal projects go to union work. I am honored to earn Roofers Local 33, IUPAT Local 35 and LiUNA’s endorsement.” |
