RE:   Markey Riding Wave Of Momentum Into Primary Election As Only Pro-Choice, Pro-Healthcare Reform Candidate Who Has Stood Up To Powerful Special Interests Like Gun Lobby, Big Oil

Since launching this campaign only a few short months ago, Ed Markey has crisscrossed the state of Massachusetts and done nearly 100 campaign events, while 9,000 volunteers have gone out into their communities to share their stories of how Ed has fought for them.

By far the strongest Get-Out-The-Vote operation in this state, the campaign’s grassroots volunteer operation will have reached out to nearly half a million voters – many of them multiple times – at their doors or by phone during GOTV alone.

The effort punctuates an aggressive campaign by Markey to win over progressive activists, primary voters and opinion-makers alike.

Ed Markey has earned the backing of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the League of Conservation Voters and Sierra Club.

He’s been endorsed by the state’s largest labor unions representing more than 270,000 members – more than half the state’s total of 417,000 – from SEIU, AFSCME Council 93, Massachusetts Teachers Association, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts, Retail, Whole and Department Store Union, Association of Professional Flight Attendants, United Steelworkers and the United Auto Workers.

And just last week he was endorsed by the Boston Globe and Springfield Republican.

With just two days remaining until April 30, Ed Markey is riding a wave of momentum that will carry him to victory in the Democratic primary.

There is a clear reason why Markey is leading in this race: “he better embodiesthe values of the Democratic Party,” making him the “best choice” in this election.

Ed Markey has stood up to powerful special interests like the gun lobby and Big Oilthroughout his career.

He is the only pro-choice Democrat in this race who can be trusted to protect a woman’s right to choose and defend the historic healthcare reform law, and he’s consistently stood up for the people of Massachusetts.

While false attacks on Ed Markey’s work as a leader on national security issues have backfired – and been thoroughly debunked by newspapers like the Globe – the people of the Commonwealth have recognized Markey’s efforts to keep Massachusetts and America safe.

It was Markey who stood up to the Bush administration and forced 100 percent screening of air cargo after 9/11. He led the charge to stop the TSA’s misguided policy decision to allow small, dangerous knives on planes, and he has fought to increase security at nuclear and liquid natural gas facilities.

Ed Markey’s record of standing up to powerful special interests like the gun lobby and Big Oil, championing the Affordable Care Act, fighting to protect a woman’s right to choose and being a leader on national security issues has made him the clear choice in this election.

That’s why he’s been endorsed by the Boston Globe and Springfield Republican, earned the support of countless women’s groups, environmental groups and labor unions, attracted the strongest grassroots field operation of any campaign in this state, and why Ed Markey will be the Democratic nominee for Senate after April 30.
