MassLive: Editorial: We endorse Ed Markey for US Senate
Edward Markey is facing a challenge for his job as U.S. senator for Massachusetts.
This would be his first full, six-year term as a senator, having won in a special election last year after John Kerry resigned to become Secretary of State.
Markey’s Republican opponent, Brian J. Herr, is a Hopkinton selectman. Markey was a congressman prior to his election as a U.S. senator, a much better stepping stone toward the Senate.
Beyond credentials, we like Markey, a Democrat, particularly his work on energy, public safety and public health.
He has filed legislation on lots of unglamorous topics that matter – aging natural gas pipelines, developing a comprehensive strategy to address opioid crisis, e-cigarettes, net neutrality, broadband and children’s issues.
Our vote goes to Markey.
