The Republican – AFT teachers’ union endorses Ed Markey in Massachusetts U.S. Senate race
Another teachers’ union has endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey for Senate.
The American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts announced Monday that it had chosen Markey over his Democratic primary opponent U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch.
“Throughout his career, Ed Markey has been an advocate for students, pushing for reforms that strengthen our public education system and reward effective teaching methods,” said Tom Gosnell, president of AFT Massachusetts, in a statement. “In the Senate, we know Ed will continue working hard on behalf of students, educators, and families.”
Markey said in a statement, “I’ve spent my time in Congress fighting to provide the best education possible for our children, and I’ll continue the fight in the Senate for more teachers, better schools and smaller class sizes.”
The union has 25,000 members.
