BOSTON, Mass. – Today, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the unified voice of organized workers across the Commonwealth, announced its endorsement of Senator Ed Markey for reelection, throwing the full weight of Massachusetts labor behind Markey’s campaign.

As the largest federation of union labor in Massachusetts, the AFL-CIO represents more than 800 local unions and nearly half a million workers who power the Commonwealth.

“While we have a President who governs through greed and division and pursues policies to make the rich richer and the middle class smaller, we need champions in Congress who will stand strong against the billionaire takeover of Washington,” said Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch. “Senator Markey has been an enthusiastic partner to unions amidst the Trump Administration’s unprecedented attacks on the bedrock rights and values of the labor movement. He doesn’t wait for us to call him when we have a problem – he calls us and asks how he can help. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is proud to support Senator Ed Markey for reelection.”

Senator Markey has long stood with organized labor and working people, fighting to protect collective bargaining, secure better wages and working conditions, and defend every worker’s right to organize.

“I am honored to have earned the Massachusetts AFL-CIO’s endorsement – more than 800 local unions and nearly half a million working people standing with me in this fight,” said Senator Ed Markey. “Growing up, I learned what a union card means at the kitchen table in Malden, and every time I carry my Senate voting card onto the Senate floor, I treat it like one. That card is a promise to stand with workers over billionaires, union jobs over corporate greed, and the people who build our Commonwealth over the bosses who try to break them. From restoring Social Security benefits for more than 130,000 Massachusetts public servants to fighting for the PRO Act and every worker’s right to organize, I am just getting started.”

At a moment when Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are attacking workers’ rights, gutting public services, and handing more power to billionaires and corporate special interests, Senator Markey is fighting to protect the labor movement, strengthen the middle class, and build an economy where one job is enough.
