BOSTON — The Ed Markey for Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), the Teamsters union representing the railroad workers who keep Massachusetts moving.

BLET members keep the MBTA Commuter Rail running all day long, carrying nurses to hospitals, students to campuses, and workers to jobs across Massachusetts. Their work keeps our New England economy moving and their endorsement reflects Senator Ed Markey’s unwavering support for working people and organized labor.

“You have consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the financial challenges facing everyday Americans,” writes Daniel M. Cadogan, the New England Legislative Board Chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. “By supporting measures that make measurable differences to the average family, you have shown that you stand with working people.”

The Teamsters union also pointed to Senator Markey’s advocacy for public transportation and rail safety, including the Safe Freight Act and the All Aboard Act – authored by Senator Markey – which requires at least two crewmembers on every freight train. In 2024, the Biden administration mirrored Senator Markey’s Safe Freight Act into a Federal Railroad Administration rule, and the provision he successfully fought to include in the Railway Safety Act requires railroad operators to prioritize workplace safety.

The BLET endorsement is the latest show of support from Teamsters unions across Massachusetts, following the endorsement of Teamsters Local 122, and further cements Senator Markey’s standing as the candidate working families trust to fight for them in Washington.
