Boston, MA – Teamsters Local 122 is proud to announce our endorsement of Ed Markey for re-election to the United States Senate. Throughout his time in officeSen. Markey has been a relentless champion for working families in Massachusetts and throughout the country. As an early supporter of the original Butch Lewis Act of 2017 and then the Butch Lewis Emergency Pension Plan Relief Act of 2021, which helped save the pensions of over 1.2 million union workers and retirees across America, Sen. Markey knows that a pension is a promise and that all workers deserve to retire with dignity and security. Sen. Markey also led the charge passing the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act which repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), that for decades had unfairly reduced the retirement benefits of many public servants. After the bill’s passage tens of thousands of Massachusetts residents saw their benefits restored. Last spring Sen. Markey introduced the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, legislation that would protect warehouse workers by prohibiting dangerous work speed quotas that lead to high rates of worker injuries. It also requires companies to disclose what quotas apply to workers. At this pivotal time in our country, while workers’ rights are under attack, we need fighters like Ed Markey in Washington more than ever. We urge our members, their families and workers across the Commonwealth to support Sen. Markey in every way possible in the days ahead. “I’m proud to earn the endorsement of Teamsters Local 122. Time and again, Teamsters have shown that when working people organize, they can win real, lasting change from defending retirement security, strengthening workplace safety, to holding powerful corporations accountable,” said Senator Ed Markey. “As the top Democrat on the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security Subcommittee, I was grateful to work alongside unions like Local 122 to repeal WEP-GPO and finally deliver the retirement security workers rightfully earned. With union rights under assault and corporate greed squeezing working families, this is no moment to step back. I’m grateful for the endorsement of Teamsters Local 122, and I’m committed to continuing this fight for dignity, safety, and economic security for every worker in Massachusetts.”
