BOSTON – Endorsed by a unanimous vote of the AFSCME Council 93 Executive Board, the Markey for Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of AFSCME Council 93, which represents more than 35,0000 state, county, municipal, and education workers in Massachusetts. The AFSCME announcement comes after the endorsement of IBEW Local 103, representing electricians and telecommunications specialists throughout Greater Boston.

“AFSCME 93 is proud to continue our longstanding support for Senator Ed Markey,” said Council 93 Executive Director Mark Bernard. “Senator Markey delivered justice for thousands of AFSCME retirees through his relentless advocacy for the Social Security Fairness Act, which repealed a law that over four decades, wrongfully stripped millions of dollars in earned social security benefits from thousands of Massachusetts retirees through the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset GPO. Ed was not just a yes vote on this landmark legislation, he was a leader who built the bipartisan support we needed to finally end this injustice. He continues to be at the forefront of protecting our members by leading the Public Service Worker Protection Act. We believe in ensuring that the most experienced leaders with unwavering support of working people are placed in the most important jobs, and for us, that means electing Senator Markey to another term in the United States Senate.
