BOSTON, Mass. – Tonight, Ed Markey won the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, securing the Democratic nomination and advancing to the November general election.

“Tonight is a testament to the power of the progressive movement. It is a progressive movement fueled by young people demanding more from their leaders,” said Senator Ed Markey in his speech. “Your voices are the ones we need to hear right now. Your leadership will show us the way.”

Senator Markey was surrounded by hundreds of supporters at his election night headquarters in Boston. 

Congressman Seth Moulton called Senator Markey tonight to concede the race and congratulate him on his victory.

Markey’s victory was powered by a broad coalition of working people, organized labor, young voters, progressive organizations, and elected leaders across Massachusetts. Senator Markey’s progressive agenda includes fighting for Medicare for All, fighting for a Green New Deal, standing up for transgender youth, for taxing billionaires and a living wage.

“Generational change isn’t about compromising to do the small things better; it is about fighting to do the big things the best,” said Markey.
