Social Media Fellow

Time Commitment: Part-time, 20 hours/week

Compensation: $15/hour

Location: Boston-area and remote opportunities

Senator Ed Markey and his campaign team will be supporting Green New Deal candidates, bold climate action, and progressive victories in 2022. They seek motivated young people who are interested in developing their digital media abilities to join the team, receive mentorship and direction, and produce excellent social media content. The Social Media Fellowship will begin in February of 2022 and run through the spring semester with opportunities to expand the role over the course of the campaign season.

Social Media Fellows will work with the Creative and Digital Communications Director to develop and distribute videos, graphics, social media posts, livestreams, and new and creative media around Senator Markey’s initiatives, including the Green New Deal, expanding the Supreme Court, the fights for racial justice, environmental justice, economic justice, and health care justice, turning out climate voters to deliver progressive victories across Massachusetts and the entire country, and more.

Social Media Fellows will use professional digital media software and equipment, organize online communities, and develop their creative and political talents while in this role. They will take part in a mentorship program where they will learn the skills that are important to running a successful digital program and will receive professional development.

Depending on the Fellow’s abilities and interests, responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting and posting approved social media content
  • Designing graphics and memes
  • Producing videos
  • Taking photos and managing a photo library
  • Animating motion graphics
  • Using social media networks such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, and Reddit
  • Organizing volunteers, voters, and online communities to take action
  • Helping maintain and update the campaign website
  • Monitoring analytics, performance, and social media trends
  • Scheduling and optimizing social media content

The Social Media Fellow should be passionate about climate action and the Green New Deal, enjoy using social media to drive positive change, and be familiar with national and Massachusetts politics, especially around the intersectional issues related to the climate crisis. Strong communication and organizational skills, a desire to create beautiful, engaging, and bold digital media, careful attention to detail and deadlines, and a willingness to learn and grow will greatly help the Social Media Fellow to be successful in this role.

People from communities of color, those who are LGBTQ+, those who are immigrants, those who are working class, and those from other underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
