FAQ
What’s a caucus?
A caucus is a local meeting of registered Democrats in your city ward or town to elect delegates to the State Convention.
When is my local caucus?
Every city and town runs its own Democratic caucus, and they’ll be held February–April 2026. We’ll publish the full list of dates as soon as they’re announced—check back soon to find the date for your caucus.
Who can participate?
Any registered Democrat in your ward or town who is 18 or older may participate and run for delegate. (Many local committees also allow pre-registered Democrats to take part.)
What If I am a registered Unenrolled/Independent?
While unenrolled/independent can vote in Massachusetts Democratic Primaries they can not run for delegate to the Mass Dems Convention. If you’re unenrolled/independent, you can change your party enrollment to Democrat ahead of your caucus so you can participate.
What if I am under the age of 18?
If your local city or town committee allows pre-registered Democrats, you may participate at 16–17. Check your city/town or ask us—we’ll confirm.
What are “add-on” delegates?
MassDems uses an add-on system to broaden representation—supporting youth, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ Democrats, people of color, and others whose voices are essential to our Party. After the caucuses, the Party may invite applications to help meet these diversity goals, and we’ll assist you with the process if applicable.
We encourage anyone interested in serving as a delegate to first run at your local caucus. If you aren’t elected there, you can then apply as an add-on—candidates who run locally are often more likely to be selected.
When is the Massachusetts Democratic Convention?
The Convention is scheduled for June 2026. Once the Party finalizes the date and location, we’ll post it here so you can plan to join us.
What Does a Delegate Do at the Convention?
Delegates serve as the voice of their community at the Massachusetts Democratic State Convention. They help determine whether the Party endorses candidates and play a crucial role in shaping our shared priorities. By caucusing for Ed and being elected as a delegate, you’ll stand with Democrats from across the Commonwealth to demonstrate strong grassroots support for Senator Markey’s continued leadership and vision for our future.
Will delegates vote on anything besides the Senate race?
Yes. As a delegate you will also votes on endorsements for other statewide offices such as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of the Commonwealth, Treasurer, or Auditor.
